Mummy’s Book Club — First Edition

I’ve always had a love of books, ever since I could read you would always find me with a book in my bag or my bedside table piled high with novels waiting for me to read.

Growing up my favourite books included everything from Sweet Valley High, crime novelists like Patricia Cornwell and the classics like Anne of Green Gables and Alice in Wonderland.

Having children meant I didn’t get to read as much as I would have liked to, as I was always busy with the kids and the house that by the time I climbed into bed the last thing I wanted to do was read, plus my husband hates it when I have the light on when he’s trying to go to sleep!

However ever since I got my iPad for my birthday, my love of reading has come back with a vengeance, since January along I reckon I’ve read close to 40-50 books! There are so many good authors out there now that my to read list grows longer and longer each day, being a member on Goodreads doesn’t help either! Goodreads is a great way to be able to share what books you have read with friends and write a review on them too.

Often I get sent books to review and write about that I wanted to find a way to share these books with my readers as well, so Ive decided to create a little book club here on my blog! Each month I’ll share a book that I’ve just read with you all and over the next few weeks anyone who wants to take part in it can, and together we can share our love of books! I’ll also look to my readers to share with me books that they love and if it gets chosen here on my blog for the book club to read, I’ll send you a little present!

So this months book I’ve chosen is called Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire.

If you loved reading the 50 Shades of Grey by E.L James you will love this novel too, minus all the sexual co-horts that made Fifty Shades so popular! This book, has two very strong personality characters in it which I found really enjoyable to watch develop throughout the book!

Beautiful Disaster is based around the main female character Abby Abernathy, an 18 year old university student who has moved from Wichita to Eastern University along with her best friend America to forget her past and create a new future for herself. It’s while at an underground fight that she meets Travis Maddox, a gorgeous tattooed muscular criminal justice major student who fights in these underground fights to pay his tuition through school. A popular ‘ladies’ man who could sleep with any girl he likes and usually does, Abby is strangely attracted to Travis but doesn’t want to become another notch in his belt. Abby doesn’t give Travis the time of day which is what makes her so attractive to Travis in the first place, however Abby only wants to be friends. But can you be friends with someone your attracted too, and who might actually be your perfect match?

One of my favourite quotes from the book is this one -:

“I knew the second I met you that there was something about you I needed. Turns out it wasn’t something about you at all. It was just you” – Travis Maddox

I created this based on the quote which I wanted to share with you, I think it will make a great addition to our photo wall!

    • You can get this on kindle Norlin, through Amazon and I reckon you would love it! Much better written than 50 Shades!

  3. I admit I am very impressed you can read so much with so many children! Since my ONE daughter was born, I have read three books (in 2.5years). I love reading too, but am sloooowwww. But maybe, you have have inspired me to read on the iPad. I have never ventured down that path. This could be the perfect place to start.
Love your idea of starting a blogging book club. X

    • Hi Zanni, want to know my biggest secret? I make my husband drive everywhere and I take my ipad and read in the car! Its amazing how quickly you can tune out the kids when your reading! Plus with my kids being so young still, they are all in bed by 6:30pm so once the house is cleaned up, I normally climb into bed and read or blog from my ipad! I’m hardly on my computer anymore unless I’m working (hubby and I have a photography business) so I always have my iphone in my pocket and do any catching up online on that!

Would love you to join our book club, and would love to hear if you have any great books you have read that might interest us all!
Have a great weekend :) Kirsty

  4. If some hot tattooed bad boy said that to me, I would totally melt like candle wax! I’m half way through the 50 Shades trilogy. A Beautiful Disaster looks like it’ll have to be my next read :)

  5. Great recommendation – sounds like the type of book I would really like. I am reading ‘City of Bones’ by Cassandra Clare at the moment and I am loving it. A blogger friend of mine who lives in Texas and I chat about books together using What’s App – we are so disappointed that we don’t live closer!
